Our Role

MN Community Measurement is a collaborative effort in our community among those who believe that you cannot improve what you don't measure. Our collaborative includes medical groups, clinics, physicians, hospitals, health plans, employers, consumer representatives and quality improvement organizations. These stakeholders support the notion that greater transparency in our health care system will lead to better health outcomes for the people of Minnesota. MN Community Measurement's mission to accelerate the improvement of health by publicly reporting health care information is having a positive effect:

• In the five years that we have been measuring the degree to which medical groups are providing optimal care for their patients with diabetes, the number of people receiving the best possible care has almost tripled. This year almost 10,000 more Minnesotans with diabetes will be working with their doctors to meet the aggressive treatment goals that clinicians consider vital to managing the disease. We know from research that those 10,000 people will likely avoid the serious complications of diabetes - strokes, heart attacks, amputations and vision problems.

• The percentage of people getting the screenings they need for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer has surpassed 50 percent, increasing by five percentage points just this past year.

• Since 2006, the rate at which children get their childhood immunizations has increased by more than 1.5 times, from 52 percent to 78 percent.

MN Community Measurement's role in the community is part of a cycle of quality improvement that requires the participation of all those concerned with improving the quality of Minnesota's health care. The end goal is that patient care improves and Minnesotans live healthier lives as a result.
